Premier League side Chelsea are plotting a £89 million mega deal for Juventus pair Gonzalo Higuain and Daniele Rugani this transfer season.
According to a UK Sun report citing Corriere dello Sport sources in Italy, club’s owner Roman Abramovich is currently in Turin with agent Fali Ramadani in discussing with eggheads of the Old Lady over the deal.
New Blues manager Maurizio Sarri is eager to bring in quality additions before hostilities commence in the English topflight.
The report further revealed that Chelsea eggheads held talks with their Serie A counterparts on Wednesday.
The Turin-based outfit are ready to let go Higuain after five-time Ballon dor winner Cristiano Ronaldo arrived the Serie A champions for £99m from Los Blancos.
The Argentine forward netted 36 league goals from 35 appearances under the tutelage of Sarri while at Napoli during the 2015/16 campaign.
The 30-year-old Higuain struggled for form last term in Serie A as he could only net 16 times.
Sarri is equally looking at the possibility of beefing up his defence line with Rugani as a top target.
The 23-year-old is under contract with Juventus until 2021 following the recent extension of his present deal with the Serie A champions last December.
The defender was on top of his game as Juventus claimed both the Serie A and the Coppa Italia trophies under Massimiliano Allegri last campaign.
However, Sarri is set to splash the clash to turn the Blues fortunes around ahead of other Premier League clubs.
Interestingly, Rugani’s arrival at Stamford Bridge is likely to fuel speculation over Gary Cahill’s exit after seven seasons at West London.
Reacting on the issue, Sarri noted that the Three Lions defender has a lot to give to the team.
“With respect to Cahill, I think he can still give us a lot,” said the 59-year-old Italian who sealed a five-year deal for Napoli midfielder as first Chelsea signing.
According to the UK Sun report, the Selacao midfielder was not in good terms with ex-boss Antonio Conte last campaign over negative tactics employed by the Premier League side.
However, Sarri’s arrival to West London seems to be turning things around as the Italian is expected to change Chelsea’s pattern of play to free-flowing side.
