Why the Super Eagles or any other African country won’t win the FIFA World Cup anytime soon, according to German strategist Gernot Rohr.
The great Brazilian Pele predicted that an African nation would win the most glamorous tournament in the world before the turn of the 21st century.
Yet 21 years after the declaration of the FIFA World Cup three times, no African team, including the Super Eagles, since Egypt made its debut in 1934 to represent the continent.
Rohr has now revealed the reasons why Africa is still not lifting the World Cup, as News Central TV put it. “We are not prepared to win the world cup, for various reasons.
“General organization. There are still many problems with travel, specifically for the preparation of the games. As here we will play in Lagos. Ten years without rivalry with the Super Eagles, so we know there is no tradition here.
The former Bordeaux manager also said the lack of African players in Europe’s top clubs means it would be difficult for countries to win the world’s biggest sports award.
“France is the champion at the moment, where is he playing? They are playing for PSG, Bayern Munich. Four of them are also world champions in their clubs.
“So when you have so many of your players from your countries playing for the best clubs, the probability that you also have one of the best teams in the world is very great.
“So what we have in Nigeria, for example, we have our players in Fulham, in West Bromwich. It is not Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Manchester United or Barcelona. But the others have their players there.
“So it would be a miracle if we really won the world cup,” concluded Rohr.
