WAFU U17: Cote d’Ivoire pip Golden Eaglets to emerge champions

The West African Soccer Union, officially abbreviated WAFU-UFOA and WAFU, is an association of nations that play soccer in West Africa.

Ivory Coast showed class again tonight to defeat the Golden Eaglets as WAFU B champions in the final of the U-17 sub-regional qualifiers in Lomé, Togo.

The Ivorians defeated Nigeria 3-2 after also being outscored by a goal in the group stage of this competition.

However, both teams have already qualified for the AFCON U17 in Morocco in July.

The elegant Ivorians took the lead at 15 minutes, before doubling their lead in the hour.

Seydou Traore made it 3-0 in the 84th minute.

Nigeria then staged a late fight with substitute striker Ahmed Abdullahi hitting a double, but it was too little too late for the defending champions.

Burkina Faso came third after they beat Niger 10-9 on penalties after both teams played 1-1 in regulation time.
