Super Eagles drop three places in FIFA ranking

8. Former African champions, Super Eagles, drew scoreless against the Sierra Leone Leone Stars in qualifying for the 2022 African Cup of Nations in Freetown on Tuesday.

The Nigerian Super Eagles fell three places from 32 to 35 in the latest FIFA / Coca-Cola World Ranking.

The rankings were published on the official FIFA website.

In Africa, the Eagles are now the fourth best team on the continent.

The Eagles’ poor qualification comes as no surprise after their poor performance in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers against Sierra Leone.

In the first leg in Benin, the Eagles blew a four-goal lead to draw 4-4 against the Leone Stars.

And in the reverse meeting in Freetown, both teams settled for a 0-0 draw.

Senegal’s Teranga Lions rose one spot to 20th in the world and are the number in Africa.

Tunisia remained in second place on the continent and 26th globally, while reigning African champion Algeria fell one place to 31st and third in Africa.

There were no changes in the top five in the world, as Belgium, France, Brazil, England and Portugal retained their first, second, third, fourth and fifth places respectively.

The next FIFA / Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on December 10, 2020.
