Mikel Arteta excited by board support in Arsenal’s time of suffering

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says the club doesn't have much room to maneuver in the January transfer window and may have to ditch the players before they can join the first team.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is frustrated and dejected over his team’s faltering season, but has the backing of the club’s management as he tries to turn things around.

Arsenal defeated London rival Chelsea 3-1 on Saturday to record their first Premier League victory in nearly two months, ending a seven-match winless streak.

Arteta earned some respite from the victory and her 15th-ranked team will look to build on that performance when they take on lower-ranked teams, beginning with Tuesday’s trip to 16th-ranked Brighton & Hove Albion.

“Regarding the results, in the last weeks we have all been suffering, I have been suffering,” said Arteta. “I feel very responsible for that. The worst feeling is because I want to do very well … and move as fast as possible.

“To do that we have to win football matches… When I don’t, I feel like I’m disappointing the club. It is exhausting, frustrating, and painful.

“When you are frustrated and sad, you have to find a place all the time to do that. My path has been my family and all the people who are here with me at the club, the board, they have all been very supportive and that has helped me a lot ”.

Arteta, who led Arsenal to FA Cup glory last season, said he questioned his management methods during the losing streak, his worst start to the season since 1974-75.

“I question myself every day,” he said. “Since I got here, first I had to analyze very well what was happening, what we can and cannot do.

“It’s a 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week job. A lot of problems and then when the results hit you like this, sometimes you can’t find the right reasons to understand why we are losing matches. But it’s the beauty of this game, finding ways to do things differently. “
