The first 21km Kaduna half marathon ended successfully on Saturday with Kenyan athletes John Muirurri Mburu and Caren Jebet Maiyo winning.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Government has expressed its appreciation to the runners, sponsors, citizens, media and government agencies who helped to organize the first edition of the Kaduna Marathon successfully.
A statement by Muyiwa Adekeye, Special Adviser to the Governor (Media and Communication), stated that the first edition of the Kaduna Marathon has advanced the stated goals of promoting the sport, fostering social interaction and showcasing the best of Kaduna.
“The Kaduna State Government wishes to express its gratitude to all those who have contributed to the success of the first edition of the Kaduna Marathon. Elite runners from various African countries brought high standards of long-distance running, while Nigerian citizens, residents, and visitors enthusiastically participated in Kaduna.
“KDSG commends all the runners, sponsors, media and government agencies that collaborated to make the Kaduna Marathon a success on the first try. We congratulate the winners and thank the other participants for making it a joyous sporting and social event.
“The state government salutes the residents of Kaduna for the warm welcome they have extended to our guests. The Government thanks the residents for kindly enduring the inconvenience caused by the road closures for a few hours on race day.
“Today’s main race of 21 km and the races of 5 and 10 km have helped to advance the objectives set for the Kaduna Marathon. Designed as a half marathon, the Kaduna Marathon is designed as an annual sporting event, creating options for talent development, attracting mass participation, inviting visitors to the state and creating economic benefits. A primary goal is to promote social interaction and promote unity in the state.
“KDSG appreciates the recognition by world athletics of the Kaduna Marathon as a fixture on the international sports calendar.
“The Kaduna Marathon represents one more initiative to revive sports in the state of Kaduna. In 2019, Malam Nasir El-Rufai anchored this responsibility in a new Ministry of Sports Development. The government will continue to support sports and will work to organize many more sports programs in the near future. “
