JUST IN: Ex-National Team Defender Dies In Motor Accident


A former South African national team defender Anele Ngcongca is dead.

Ngcongca, as reported by South African news outlet Kickoof, tragically passed away in a car accident on Monday.

It emerged that Ngcongca was about to be introduced as an AmaZulu player and was already in Durban after a loan agreement was reached with Sundowns.

The 33-year-old had agreed to a one-year loan with an additional option to make the move permanent next season.

However, official sources have confirmed that Ngcongca has succumbed to serious injuries sustained during an accident in the early hours of this morning.

Ngcongca won more than 50 senior international matches with Bafana Bafana, including an appearance at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Ngcongca enjoyed an impressive career that took him to Belgium, where he played for KRC Genk, and France, where he served Troyes in Ligue 1 for one season, before returning to South Africa to join the Brazilians.

He also played more than 50 senior international matches with Bafana Bafana, including an appearance at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
