Joe Aribo and Leon Balogun returned to their club duties and the Rangers pulled 11 points away from Celtic atop the Scottish Premiership with a resounding 4-0 win over Aberdeen on Sunday.

A long-range shot deflected by Ryan Kent put Rangers in front before Kemar Roofe made it 2-0.

Scott Arfield’s shot entered the goal against Shay Logan and James Tavernier took the fourth from the hosts’ penalty spot.

Sam Cosgrove, Ryan Hedges and Matty Kennedy threatened for Aberdeen, but they couldn’t avoid an 18th win and a 17th clean sheet in this span for the Rangers.

It’s the Ibrox team’s best start to the season in 53 years.

Celtic, who drew at Hibernian on Saturday, have two games in hand over Rangers and are four points ahead of Aberdeen.

Rangers will return to action in the Europa League on Thursday at home to Benfica, who are tied on points with Ibrox’s team at the top of Group D.

They will then face Falkirk in next Sunday’s Scottish League Cup tie.
