Odion Ighalo is interested in moving to Major League Soccer as he nears the end of his loan period at Premier League giants Manchester United.
Ighalo joined the Shanghai Shenhua Red Devils of the Chinese Super League on a six-month loan deal last winter.
The deal was later extended until January 2021 after the impressive Nigerian shows from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
With the loan agreement expiring at the end of this month, the forward stated that he would love to stay at United, but is also looking forward to playing in MLS.
“I’m in Manchester today, but at the end of the month I don’t know where I’ll be,” Ighalo told ESPN.
“If possible, I would like to stay here, but if not I have to go.
“I have options. I wait for my agent. He’s doing his job and I’m doing mine. At the end of the month, we have to decide what is best and we will take it. If possible, I would like to play in the MLS, but I have to wait to see if it is possible.
“The league is fine and if the opportunity arises, I would grab it with both hands.”
United is not likely to extend Ighalo’s contract with the former Watford man behind Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Edison Cavani and Mason Greeenwood in the pecking order.
However, the 31-year-old is not concerned about his condition, as he will leave Old Trafford a man happy to have fulfilled his dream of playing for the team he supported as a child.
“I never thought I would play for United,” he said. “Where I come from, we fight for United games.
“We fight. We discuss. When my team has not done well, I cry. I grew my love for United since I was young and I am the happiest man in the world for my dream to come true. I have fulfilled my dream of playing for Manchester United ”.
