FIFA today celebrated former Super Eagles stars Nwankwo Kanu, Finidi George and their Ajax teammates after they won the now-defunct Intercontinental Cup against the Guild of Brazil in 1995.
Ajax participated in the 1995 Intercontinental Cup after they emerged as UEFA Champions League champions, defeating AC Milan 1-0 in the final the same year.
Gremio got the go-ahead to face Ajax in the one-legged tie after winning the Copa Libertadores, the South American equivalent of the UEFA Champions League.
After a 0-0 scoreline in regulation time, Ajax won 4-3 on penalties with Finidi converting his shot from point of view to put his team 3-2 up.
