A well-executed penalty from ‘Captain Fantastic’ Austin Oladapo separated the two Abia State rivals as Enyimba emerged as champion of the inaugural Governor Okezie Ikpeazu Preseason Tournament.
In the exciting final at the Enyimba Stadium, both sides convinced everyone that they are truly ready for the 2020/2021 national and continental challenges with a near-perfect performance of extraordinary skills and a combative football orchestra to the delight of the officials and reporters present.
The week-long ‘Abia Football Festival’ was attended by the state sports commissioner, as well as several scouts and club coaches who were available to search for young players.
It was Coach Fatai Osho’s first silver medal for the People’s Elephant since he stepped into the technical saddle of the eighth Nigerian champion.
Osho told reporters that the pre-season tournament victory could be a sign of good to come, stressing that it was important to get into big competitions like the CAF Champions League trip to Burkina Faso’s Rahimo.
“It is good for us. Going to Burkina Faso against Rahimo, a feat like this will always inspire the players, ”said Osho delighted.
Osho added: “We believe that even if we have greater opposition, we can do it. Beating great teams like Plateau United and Abia Warriors, look at the caliber of their coaches and you want to give it to the players, they did a very good job ”.
