Burnley finally got their Premier League campaign underway, securing their first win of the season with a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.
Forward Chris Wood sent the hosts on their way in the eighth minute, emphatically beating Vicente Guaita to score Burnley’s first home goal of the season.
Johann Berg Gudmundsson should have made the game safe in the 55th minute when Dwight McNeil went on target, but his shot crashed off the crossbar.
The failure almost proved costly right at the time of death, as Burnley needed a fantastic save from Nick Pope to deny Christian Benteke the draw and seal his team’s much-needed three points.
The victory takes Sean Dyche’s team out of the relegation zone to 17, while the defeat drops Crystal Palace one place to 10th.
1 – Chris Woods’ first goal for Burnley means all teams in the first four tiers of English football have scored a goal at home in 2020-21, with this 30th shot by the Clarets at Turf Moor. Expected. #BURCRY pic.twitter.com/Da6uif50Zc
