Super Eagles forward Alex Iwobi will be aiming for his first Boxing Day Premier League goal when he shows up for Everton against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane today (Saturday).
The game will also be Iwobi’s Boxing Day debut for Everton since his € 32 million trade from Arsenal last summer.
The 24-year-old has appeared in three Boxing Day matches while with Arsenal he recorded a win, a draw and a loss, but failed to find the back of the net every time.
Iwobi was on the losing side with Arsenal in his debut appearance on Boxing Day in 2015 when he replaced Theo Walcott in the 78th minute in a 4-0 loss to Southampton.
The Nigerian was in the starting lineup and played for 71 minutes in his second outing in 2016 with Arsenal recording a 1-0 home win against West Brom at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal and Iwobi were not involved in the Boxing Day match in 2017, but the Eagles star started off the bench in his third outing in 2018 coming in for Mezut Ozil in the 46th minute as Arsenal fought to a 1-1 draw against Brighton. .
Iwobi then lost the opportunity to make his Boxing Day debut with Everton last December with a thigh injury that ruled him out of the Toffees 1-0 win over Burnley at Goodison Park.
An Iwobi goal against Sheffield United will also translate into his first EPL goal for Everton this season after going 13 games without scoring.
