We’ll Never Allow Any Type Of #EndSARS Protest Again – IGP Declares

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu has stated that the Nigerian Police will never again allow another type of #EndSARS protest.

Speaking in Abuja on Friday when meeting with police commissioners, the IGP said the force is ready to confront anyone who organizes or participates in such protests across the country.

Adamu said police officers protected protesters during the #EndSARS protest in October, but then it turned violent and resulted in loss of life and property.

“Remember, even our constitution does not accept violent protests, so those people who plan to present another protest, if they have planned it to be violent, they must rethink, otherwise, we have prepared to face them,”
said the IGP.

“We will never again allow this type of #EndSARS protests. It was violent. Peaceful protest is allowed in our constitutions. When this process began peacefully, we provided them with security. We moved with them to make sure no group of people disturbed them and everything was going well until it turned violent.

“When it became violent, they attacked people who were even protecting them. Therefore, we will never again allow any violent protest in this country. When talking about peaceful protests, yes, it is allowed, but violent protests, never!

“We must protect this country from bullies. We must protect this country from violence, and we want all Nigerians to work with us to prevent what happened after the end of SARS in terms of destruction of public property, loss of life, businesses of individuals that were paralyzed, corporate institutions they were destroyed.

“Well-meaning Nigerians should join us in preventing this from happening again. We have made many arrests of people who escaped from prisons. Some were even arrested in Kano and Kaduna. When they escaped, some of them went back to their robbery business. “
