Chisom Chukwuneke, a brilliant student who emerged as the best candidate in 2019 for the West African Upper Secondary Certificate Examination, WASSCE, at her school, recently passed away after battling blood cancer.
Felix Chukwuneke, a Nigerian professor identified as the father of the deceased, took to Facebook to narrate how Chisom’s illness began as a pain in his leg.
He said this had led him to take her to South Africa for medical attention. He reportedly died after prolonged treatment in South Africa.
Blood cancer, also called leukemia, is a disease in which the bone marrow and other blood-forming organs produce increased numbers of immature or abnormal white blood cells, thereby suppressing the production of normal blood cells.
