A 23-year-old level 100 student from Osun State University, Ikire Juba Orisajafor campus on Tuesday drank poison and died within hours he preached against suicide on his WhatsApp.
It was learned that Orisajafor on Tuesday morning updated his WhatsApp status, condemning the suicide.
His post on WhatsApp says: “I often ask myself: Why do people commit suicide? Perhaps because they have no one to encourage, motivate or guide them or because they felt that there is no solution to whatever problem they are going through. Perhaps they forgot that there is more to enjoy when there is life (hope) is not lost ”.
A source told reporters that one of the students at the shelter where Orisajafor lived saw him unconscious in front of his shelter around 6:30 pm after taking a bottle from a sniper.
“They rushed him to a hospital where a doctor confirmed his death. The students reported to school security who informed the police. “
Police spokeswoman Ms Yemisi Opalola confirmed the incident saying that UNIOSUN security chief Tunde Akintibubo reported the case.
“We visited the place where the victim was found totally unconscious and later confirmed dead by a doctor at the Oluyoro Apomu Catholic Hospital.
“An empty Snipper bottle was recovered and the body of the deceased was deposited in a morgue for autopsy.”
University spokesman Adesoji Ademola said the school could not determine the reason behind Orisaja’s action.
