Umar Farouq ‘Weeps’ As Pantami Disgraces Her At FEC Meeting

The disagreement between the two ministers, according to a leading source, has further confirmed insinuations that there was division among President Muhammadu Buhari’s top aides.

The Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Sadiya Umar Farouq, was involved in a heated discussion on Wednesday with her colleague for Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, during the weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council in the Presidential Villa, Abuja .

The disagreement between the two ministers, according to a leading source, has further confirmed insinuations that there was division among President Muhammadu Buhari’s top aides.

SaharaReporters deduced that the problems started after Pantami submitted his ministry’s planned activities for approval, which included mapping and registering internally displaced people across the country.

Immediately after the Communication Minister’s presentation, Farouq angrily raised her hand to speak and express her objection to the approval of such activities pending the review and approval of her ministry.

It was learned that the president was inclined to agree with Sadia, considering the oversight role of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs over internally displaced persons, but Pantami strongly opposed Farouq’s opposition, reminding him of the statutory power and role of the Commission. National Management of Identity in the capture and registration of citizens, internally displaced or not.

The Communications Minister broke the camels when he flaunted a letter written by his ministry to Farouq’s office on October 15, 2020 with no response a month later.

It was at this point that the president went ahead and approved the Pantami memo, granting NIMC the go-ahead to capture IDPs.

SaharaReporters deduced that Farouq, who had always used her closeness to President Buhari to intimidate, manipulate and harass her fellow ministers, was honored.

A source said the minister openly wept immediately after the meeting, accusing Pantami of dishonoring her in front of the president and other colleagues.

“Farouq is very afraid, he is afraid that the capture may expose the corruption that is often perpetrated on behalf of the internally displaced,” said the source.
