Nigerian singer-songwriter Wizkid is not a new name for the music industry. He began recording music at the age of 11 and managed to release an album in collaboration with the Glorious Five, a group that he and a couple of friends from his church formed.


Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun (born July 16, 1990), known professionally as Wizkid, is not a new name in the music industry, known both in Nigeria and internationally.

But before all this fame emerged, he was still struggling to become the center of attention.

Rose to fame after releasing “Holla at Your Boy,” the lead single from her debut studio album Superstar in 2011.


Some of his famous songs from then include: Love my baby, Pakurumo, baddest boy and so many others.

“Ojuelegba”, the song that brought Wizkid firmly to international exposure, tells a story. The musical artist comes from Ojuelegba in Lagos. Ojuelegba used to be famous for touts and is located on the Surulere axis of Lagos.


Wizkid signed with Empire Mates Entertainment (abbreviated as EM E), a Nigerian record label founded by Banky W and Tunde Demuren in 2002. It was home to artists like Wellington himself and Niyola. DJ Xclusive was the official DJ of the label.
Banky W announced in February 2018 that EM E was disbanded as a record label. In a video interview that appeared online Wednesday, October 9, 2019, Starboy said that he had to leave the record label penniless because he felt he had reached a stage where he had to move on.
In April 2013, Wizkid signed Maleek Berry and Legendury Beatz to their label, Starboy Entertainment.

Wizkid is said to be the most internationally decorated African artist and one of the most revolutionary Afro-pop acts of the modern era. In February 2014, Wizkid became the first Nigerian musician to have more than a million followers on Twitter.


In June 2015, it was reported that Wizkid had left MTN and signed a £ 128 million deal with GLO.

Recently, there have been comparisons between Wizkid and his fellow musical compatriots Davido on who is the better of both.


Wizkid has three sons with three different women. They were born on May 13, 2011, January 15, 2016, and October 28, 2017, respectively.

In terms of awards, Wizkid is the most awarded African artist at the BET Awards, Soul Train Awards, Billboard Awards, iHeartRadio Music Awards and MOBO Awards.
