A family of three, father, wife and their baby, were killed yesterday in a car accident along the Benin-Auchi Highway in the Uhunmwonde local government area of Edo.
The deceased were said to be heading towards the end of the Auchi road when the vehicle, a Toyota Camry, collided with their vehicle right in front of the Coca Cola Bottling Company.
A neighbor who gave his name as Mr. Osarenren said that it was the noise of the collusion of the two vehicles that woke him from his deep sleep.
Osarenren said her heart nearly skipped when she saw the wrecked vehicle that was crushed under the full weight of the vehicle laden with Coca Cola products.
He said the accident happened around 3 am.
He said they have long asked the bottling company to remove their trucks from the road, but to no avail, noting that the community in the state’s Uhunmwode local government area had long ago ceded land for the parking lot of articulated vehicles to the company. But he was surprised that drivers still park on the road.
He said the remains of the victims have since been deposited at the nearby White Cross Hospital, Ogueka, in the suburbs of Benin, while serious efforts were being made to locate the family of the deceased.
When contacted by mobile phone, the Commander of the Edo State Sector of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr. Henry Benamaisia, said that he had not yet been informed of the accident.
