Police launch manhunt as gunmen kidnap, kill ex-NUPENG chief in Rivers

The Nigerian Police say their investigation shows that Boko Haram, Ansaru and other terrorist groups are receiving support from some Nigerians.

Rivers State Police have launched a manhunt for the gunmen who kidnapped and killed the former President of the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Ebenezer Kalabo Amah, in Rivers State.

It was learned that Amah was abducted by unknown gunmen, who ambushed his residence on Precious Chukwu Street in Woji, Obio / Akpor Local Government Area.

He is said to have been approached on Wednesday night as he was driving home on Wednesday night.

It was learned that the assailants blocked his vehicle, dragged him out and took him to an unknown destination.

Police spokesman Nnamdi Omoni confirmed the incident saying that the deceased’s vehicle was recovered the same day.

But he said his lifeless body was seen on Peter Odili Road the next day (Thursday).

It was learned that Amah, who retired from Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), was shot and killed minutes after being kidnapped.

Omoni said, “Yes, I can confirm. He was kidnapped in Woji on the 17th. That same day, the police recovered his vehicle. While searching for him, we got information that his body was dumped somewhere on Peter Odili Road.

“So the next day, the 18th, we arrived and confirmed that it was the same person who was kidnapped the day before. His body was evacuated and taken to the hospital morgue for preservation ”.
