Police foil bid to kidnap 19 persons in Abuja

The Nigerian Police say their investigation shows that Boko Haram, Ansaru and other terrorist groups are receiving support from some Nigerians.

In quick response to a call for help, the FCT Police Command rescued 19 people from being abducted on Pei-leilei Road along the Kwali axis of the Federal Capital Territory.

The incident occurred on Wednesday.

The successful rescue operation was carried out by a joint team of Commando police officers, who responded quickly to the occasion and engaged the heavily armed thugs in a fierce gun battle, a statement from the FCT Police Command said on Thursday.

However, a concerted effort is being made to rescue the three remaining victims from the custody of the thugs who escaped into the bordering forest.

The statement by Command spokesperson Mariam Yusuf added: “The Command assures members of the public of its unwavering commitment to implement proactive crime fighting measures to ensure the safety of life and property at FCT before Christmas and New Years celebration.
