PDP inaugurates Ebonyi caretaker committee

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) inaugurated the Provisional Committee of the party’s state chapter in Ebonyi on Monday.

The national president of the PDP, Mr. Uche Secondus, represented by the north national vice president, Senator Suleiman Nazif, inaugurated the committee.

He promised that the PDP would continue to bring opportunities and a sense of belonging to the Igbo people.

Secondus said the PDP would continue to be a household name in Ebonyi and the southeast.

“The people of the Southeast are people we love, people we admire, people who have contributed to the development of this country.

“He has a safe haven in PDP. You are known in the PDP. PDP is a household name in the Southeast.

“The PDP will continue to be a home in Ebonyi,” he said.

The national organizing secretary, retired Colonel Austin Akobundu, said the party would do everything possible to stabilize it in Ebonyi and the south-east.

Akobundu, represented by the Deputy National Secretary, Mr. Emmanuel Agbo, encouraged PDP leaders in the area not to be discouraged by the recent defection of the State Governor, Mr. Dave Umahi, from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said that the party still had its base and structure with the people of the state at the grassroots.

“I call my brothers and sisters, do not be afraid. Don’t take this as a disadvantage at all.

“This is supposed to make you stronger, because like the last roll call, all three Ebonyi senators and all members of the House of Representatives support you.

“In party politics, the closer you get to the rank and file in terms of party officials, that’s the true strength of the party.

“So with all of you, I dare say that in the next by-elections in the next 10 days, the PDP will still take the day,” he said.

He said that stakeholders in Ebonyi and the Southeast were properly consulted before the NWC constitutes members of the inaugurated committee to steer the party’s affairs in the state.

The interim committee chair, Mr. Fred Udeogu, praised the NWC for its actions, assuring that the PDP would continue to win in Ebonyi.

“On behalf of our members, we assure you that we will win the state as we have been doing.

“We will deliver 100 percent Ebonyi to PDP,” Udeogu said.

Other members of the inaugurated committee are Luke Nkwegu – Secretary, Gideon Osi – Advertising Secretary and James Alaka – Organization Secretary.

The former president of the Senate, Senator Pius Ayim; Senator Sam Ekwu, Amb. Frank Ogbuewu and the other two serving senators from Ebonyi.
