An adult man has been confirmed dead in an accident involving four vehicles near Tarzan Junction, along the Onitsha-Awka Highway, Onitsha, in Anambra on Friday night.
Andrew Kumapayi, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident to reporters on Saturday.
Kumapayi said the accident, which occurred around 11 p.m., was caused by loss of control.
The FRSC chief said four people, comprising three adult men and one adult woman, were involved in the accident that claimed a life.
“The accident involved a Toyota Sienna with registration number SE482JJT, a Volkswagen vehicle with registration number NNE336ZK, a Toyota bus with registration number FST635XV and a Toyota Hilux pickup with registration number ABN16XP.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the Volkswagen vehicle lost control of the vehicle and collided with three other vehicles, causing his death.
“The corpse of the dead victim was taken to Iyienu hospital and deposited in the morgue by the FRSC rescue team from the Nteje Unit Command, while the investigation to unravel the cause of the accident has begun,” he said.
While showing solidarity with the families of the dead, Kumapayi urged motorists to ensure regular maintenance of their vehicles and to drive safely.
