Obama has sent a strong message to Trump about Biden becoming the next president of the United States.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that former US President Barack Obama has told Donald Trump, his successor, that Joe Biden, a former US Vice President, is unstoppable as the next president, despite the current president’s legal antics.
President Obama spoke on CBS Sunday Morning’s Gayle King, hours before Trump announced that he is filing “major cases” to challenge the election result.
The former US president said he believes the results of the 2020 US elections, against which Trump continues to criticize, citing unsubstantiated allegations of voter fraud, are fair.
Look, Joe Biden will be the next president of the United States; Kamala Harris will be the next vice president, ”she said.
Obama’s statement comes after he previously warned Donald Trump in a 60 Minutes interview that his attempt to delegitimize the election, making wild accusations, is dangerous to American democracy.
“They seem to be motivated, in part, because the president doesn’t like to lose and never admits the loss,” he said.
“I’m more concerned that other Republican officials who clearly know better agree with this, are pleasing him in this way.
“It is one more step in the delegitimization of not only the incoming Biden administration, but democracy in general. And that’s a dangerous path, ”Obama said.
Obama first joined Biden in the election campaign in late October, praising his former vice president and criticizing Trump for not focusing on the nation, particularly during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“It wasn’t personal,” Obama told King of his remarks against Trump. “The truth is all I said, I was just saying facts.”
“It’s not my preference to be out there,” he added. “I think we were in a circumstance in this election where certain standards had been violated, certain institutional values that are so extraordinarily important, that it was important to me, as someone who had served in that position, just to let people know, ‘This is not normal.’
