“North Is The Worst Place To Live In Nigeria” -Sultan Of Sokoto Says

Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto and chairman of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs of Nigeria (NSCIA), has stated that the northern region is the worst place to live in Nigeria due to insecurity.

He unveiled it at the Nigerian Interfaith Council (NIREC) Fourth Quarter Meeting in Abuja on Thursday, November 26, while speaking on topics including the elimination of SARS, insecurity in the north and the rising cost of living. He said;

“We must obey all laws, if we do not comply with the law. We have heard people calling for the elimination of SARS, the president has done it and then we said to bring the police back. We cannot do without the Police; we cannot do without our security agencies. No matter how bad the law enforcement agencies are, there are still excellent officers.

“What we have to do is fish out the bad elements from the security agencies and reform the agencies and have a better one. Abusing the Police, abusing the soldiers, abusing the security agencies would not bode well for us because, by the time we crawl into anarchy, everyone would be in their place and then there would be a serious problem in the country.

“We have security problems in the country, now bandits enter people’s houses to kidnap, no longer on the road. Recently in the last days, they are entering institutions, in Zaria; ABU, the Polytechnic and took people away ”.

Monarch Sokoto also recounted some of the security challenges faced by some residents of the northern region.

He said;

“Insecurity in the north is so high that people are even afraid to travel from Funtua to Zaria, a journey of about 48 or 50 miles. Not to mention Sokoto with Abuja or Kano.

“We know what we are going through. We are so insecure in the North that people are losing hope. People keep things in the house so that when the bandits come, they will let them go free.

“A couple of weeks ago 76 people were killed in Sokoto by bandits in one day, it is not a story because I went with the governor in the eastern part of Sokoto but you don’t hear these stories because it happened in the north and we have no means of communication. strong enough to bring out these atrocities on bandits, so people think the North is safe.

“No north is not safe at all. In fact, it is the worst place to be in this country because bandits roam the towns with their AK47s and no one speaks to them. They stop at the markets and buy things and even collect change with their weapons ”.
