Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has stated that anyone convicted of rape and gender-based violence will face the wrath of the law.
The governor spoke Thursday when he received a 54-page compendium on sexual and gender-based violence compiled by the Stakeholders Committee created by his wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, to give recommendations on how crime can be fought. won.
Sanwo-Olu, who is the commander of GBV incidents in Lagos, reiterated his administration’s commitment to protect vulnerable demographic groups and achieve justice for raped victims.
The Governor said: “I am delighted with the work done by the Stakeholders Committee to draw attention to the problems faced by voiceless adults and children in our society. Through their efforts, vulnerable people are building the courage to speak out about crimes of sexual violence and heal their wounds.
“We will bring in the people who have been perpetrating these crimes, knowingly or unknowingly, to sign up. We will make sure that they never walk freely without the full wrath of the law upon them. It is part of our responsibility to ensure that vulnerable members of our society have a voice and access to a place where they can obtain justice when their rights are violated ”.
Previously, Ibijoke had asked the government to intensify the response aimed at reducing sexual and gender-based violence to a minimum.
