Zainab ahmed

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab ahmed, on Wednesday, revealed the plan of the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to reopen land borders in Nigeria.

The Federal Government had ordered the closure of land borders since August 2019.

Nigeria closed its land borders last year in a bid to reduce the illegal importation of drugs, small arms and agricultural products into the country from neighboring West African nations.

The minister, while speaking with correspondents in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, revealed that the presidential committee created on the matter has completed its work and recommended the reopening of the borders.

Ahmed added that the committee would send its report to Buhari with the expectation of a formal statement on the matter.

However, it did not reveal how soon the land borders will be reopened.
