NCDC: 138 NYSC members test positive for coronavirus

The National Youth Services Corps (NYSC) in Niger has commended Mr. Hamzat Adekunle's efforts, under state code number NG-19C-1696, for testing 65 people at the camp for free diabetes.

The Nigerian Center for Disease Control (NCDC) said on Monday that 138 members of the National Youth Services Corps (NYSC) had so far tested positive for the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, Director General, NCDC, said this in the National Report on COVID-19 on Monday in Abuja.

Ihekweazu said none of those who tested positive were allowed into the camps.

According to him, 34,785 members of the corps and members of the camp’s communities have been tested and 138 have turned positive, representing a prevalence of 0.4 percent.

“It means one in every 200 people,” he explained.

The NCDC chief said those who tested positive were treated at home or at a treatment center, depending on whether they had symptoms and what condition they were in.

As the talks between striking university professors and the Federal Government progressed and became more positive, he said the next challenge would be how to work with education stakeholders to ensure the safe reopening of universities.

“Universities are a bit more risky and present unique challenges, but we are confident that we can approach this as we have in other sectors such as aviation,” said Ihekweazu.
