National Assembly transmits 2021 budget to President Buhari for assent

President Buhari has ensured that his administration will analyze the 12-point recommendations of graduates of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) on population growth and human capital development in Nigeria.

The National Assembly has transmitted the 2021 N13.082 billion appropriation bill to President Muhammadu Buhari for approval.

The NASS approved the 2021 budget last week and also raised the proposed estimate from N13.082 trillion to N13.588 trillion.

The Senior Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Affairs, Senator Babajide Omoworare, confirmed the transmission of the budget to President Buhari.

“This is to confirm that the Draft Law on Assignments has been transmitted by the National Assembly to the President in accordance with the provision of Article 59 of the Constitution.

He also confirmed that the appropriations bill “is currently being examined by the President and that the consequent executive measures will be taken in due course.”

President Muhammadu Buhari presented the N13.082 trillion budget dubbed the “economic recovery and resilience budget” on October 8 to a joint session of the National Assembly on October 8, 2020.

The budget comes with a projected income of N7.89 billion, expenses of N13.08 billion, and a deficit of N5.02 billion, which is 64% of the projected income.

Other highlights of the budget include the provision of N3.12 trillion to service the country’s public debt, which stood at N31.01 trillion in October 2020.
