The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has assured Nigerians of the Nigerian Air Force’s continued commitment to the security of the nation, promising that his men would not yield or rest on their oars until the Safety of the lives and property of Nigerians are guaranteed.
He made this promise on Christmas Day in Maiduguri while welcoming Air Task Force troops from Operation Lafiya Dole to a luncheon at NAF Maiduguri Base.
He said that with the acquisition of additional platforms such as the Super Tucano, JF-17, UAV and other additional equipment, Nigerians should expect a game changer from the Nigerian Air Force.
He told the troops: “I am delighted to be here to celebrate the Christmas celebration with all of you; being a tradition that I have maintained since I took office. Let me tell you that the essence is to help fill the void created by not being able to celebrate with our families for service demands.
“This occasion also fosters camaraderie and gives us all the opportunity to congratulate each other on our collective efforts in the ongoing fight against the insurgency.
“It is not easy to quantify their enormous contributions and sacrifices in the war against the insurgency. The celebration of Christmas has to do with sacrifice. As military professionals, our sacrifices for the unity of Nigeria remain immeasurable.
“We are all aware of the enormous responsibility we have to ensure the indivisibility of our beloved Country. My vision has been ‘to reposition the Nigerian Air Force into a highly professional and disciplinary force through capacity building initiatives for the effective, efficient and timely use of air power in response to Nigerian national security imperatives.’
He said that the Nigerian Air Force had vigorously trained the manpower necessary to have the ability to operate all the sophisticated aircraft and equipment that the Nigerian Federal Government had provided them, emphasizing that “therefore, we cannot afford to take by surprise “.
Abubakar said that the Nigerian Air Force has continued to contribute its quota in various internal security operations across the country aimed at combating all forms of crime, adding that one example is the involvement of the Nigerian Air Force in the Operation. Lafiya Dole in the northeast.
He added: “Similarly, we have intensified our anti-banditry and other security operations across the country. We will not give up or rest on our oars until we ensure the safety of Nigerians’ lives and property.

Earlier, the Commander of the Air Task Force, Operation Lafiya Dole, Air Commodore Abubakar Abdulkadir, said that the Christmas lunch was one of many CAS gestures aimed at raising the morale and spirits of the troops serving in the units. at the forefront of the fight to restore peace and normalcy to the Northeast and Northwest regions.
He said it was really noteworthy that the CAS had been providing the necessary ATF support to effectively carry out its legal mandate in support of Operation Lafiya Dole.
He noted that: “The improved serviceability rates of our platforms from 35 percent in 2015 to over 80 percent in 2020 and the acquisition of various aerial platforms and weapons systems are testimonies to the assiduous commitment and efforts of the current leadership of the NAF.
