The Lagos State Police have charged the popular Nigerian comedian, Mr macaroni and others 39 #OccupyLekkiTollgate Protesters arrested at Lekki tollbooth on Saturday in court.
The protesters have been prosecuted in a trial court in the Yaba area of Lagos state.
According to the charge sheet seen by GistReel, were accused of “not complying with the Quarantine Law that prohibits any social gathering to prevent the spread and contact of the Coronavirus Disease, breaking the public peace, harassment and causing unnecessary alarm to the public”, punishable under the Section 412 of the Lagos State Law, 2015.
Remember GistReel previously reported the arrest of the protesters and how were you mistreated like criminals by police officers. They were also reportedly denied access to their lawyers, according to viral reports.
However, all the arrested protesters have been on bail after they pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
