Man dies in Christmas Day accident in Anambra

A man was confirmed dead in a motorcycle accident at the Awkuzu junction on the Enugu-Onitsha highway, Anambra state, on Christmas Day.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Anambra, Mr. Andrew Kumapayi, who confirmed the incident to the Nigerian News Agency in Awka on Friday, said that the accident occurred around 12 pm.

Kumapayi said the accident was caused by speeding and loss of control.

The FRSC chief said a total of two adult men were involved in the accident while one of them died.

“The accident involved a Cater motorcycle with registration number PMG259QA.

“A witness report that came to us indicates that two adult men on a motorcycle were in a solo accident as a result of speeding and loss of control.

”The motorcycle driver who suffered some degree of injuries was transferred to the Chira Hospital, Awkuzu by the FRSC rescue team from the Nteje unit command.

“The passenger of the motorcycle was also taken to the same hospital and was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty. His body was deposited in the morgue, ”he said.

While showing solidarity with the family of the dead, he urged motorcyclists to avoid speeding and make sure to wear helmets to avoid head injuries in the event of an accident.
