A professor from the Alex Ekwueme Ndufu-Alike Ikwo Federal University, Ebonyi State, Mr. Kyrian Nwoke, has been killed by unknown assailants.
Until his death, he was a professor in the Department of Physiology of AE-FUNAI.
His lifeless body was found along the axis of the Abakaliki rice mill on Ogoja Road on Monday with gunshot wounds.
Journalists reported that the deceased was using his car as a taxi to fend for himself and his family following difficulties caused by the long-running dispute between the federal government and the Union of Academic Personnel of Universities that has led to the retention of the teachers’ salaries. for months.
Nwoke was said to have disappeared on Sunday after an as-yet unidentified person called him to go to Udemezue in Abakaliki to pick up customers at a popular restaurant on Ogoja Road.
A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “The young man was a professor in the Department of Physiology at Alex Ekwueme Ndufu Alike-Ikwo Federal University, Ebonyi State, Nigeria.
“Due to salaries withheld from teachers for more than four months, Kyrian registered his car with the taxi service so he could feed his family (wife and 2-year-old daughter).
“Kyrian was called in to pick up customers on Udemezue Street and drop them off at a popular restaurant known for local delicacies on Ogoja Road, Abakaliki, on Sunday January 10th. He did not return because his lifeless body was found the next day near the Rice Mill on the same road to Ogoja with gunshot wounds to his body and his car missing.
“My prayer is that the perpetrators of this evil act never go unpunished. The Ebonyi state government and indeed the law enforcement agency should sit down and bring the culprit to the book. “
When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Loveth Odah, said that the Command had not yet received an official report on the murder of Mr. Nwoke.
