Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma says the recent attacks in the state were sponsored by aggrieved politicians.
The governor said this while appearing on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ program on Wednesday, April 7, 2021.
Let us remember that on Monday, April 5, 2021, armed men attacked the Owerri Correctional Prison and released more than 1800 inmates.
The attackers also set fire to the Imo State Police Command headquarters in Owerri and all vehicles parked at the command headquarters.
Police have accused members of the Eastern Security Network of being the masterminds of the attacks, but the group led by Nnamdi Kanu has since denied the accusation.
However, the governor claimed that those responsible for the attacks were sponsored by aggrieved politicians to destabilize the APC (Congress of All Progressives) government.
He said: “Their tactic (of the attackers) is that they try to identify the complaints of the people in a particular area. If it’s in Imo state and there are probably some IPOB folks who are unhappy, they hire thugs from out of Imo state, bring them in pretending to be IPOB and commit these crimes and leave.
“So it’s not about IPOB. Yes, we agree, we have wronged the members of the IPOB, but I can tell you that those who are doing this destruction, most of them were brought from outside the state of Imo. “
“What is important for Nigerians to know is the plot of a group of aggrieved politicians to destabilize the APC (All Progressives Congress) government.
“I have conducted a thorough investigation and have a credible lead on those who sponsor these activities of these thugs.
“I don’t want to get ahead of the investigations by other law enforcement agencies, but I can tell you that we are working hard to ensure that the sponsors of these cowardly acts must be accounted for.”
