On Saturday, gunmen abducted a nursing mother in Gujungu city, in the Taura local government area of Jigawa state.
Residents told reporters that the armed men invaded the community around 2:00 am, wielding sophisticated weapons. Subsequently, they went to the residence of Basiru Inusa and kidnapped his wife.
A resident identified the victim as Habashiyya and said she gave birth to a baby a month ago before being abducted overnight, leaving the nursing child behind, said the source, who asked not to be identified for security reasons.
Jigawa police spokesman Audu Jinjiri confirmed the incident to reporters and claimed that the police received the report about eight hours after the abduction.
Jinjiri said that receiving reports hours after a kidnapping incident, it will be difficult for security agents to track down criminals and rescue victims.
Police recently received the report from the abducted woman’s father, as her husband fled during the midnight attack and has not yet returned home, at the time police gave the update on the incident.
The official urged residents to report promptly to the security post closest to the kidnapping incident. He said this will give security officials ample opportunity to track down the gunmen.
The latest development adds to the growing insecurity in Jigawa over the weeks.
