Governor of Ebonyi State and new member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Engr. David Umahi met this evening (Sunday) with the Senate Whip Chief and APC Southeast Leader, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.
The two leaders are currently meeting for a private dinner in Abuja, where the governor received the head of the Senate and the top elected political official from the southeast.
The meeting dispels media reports that the governor’s defection to the PDP’s APC may have created discord between him and Senator Orji Uzor-Kalu.
Recall that just two days after Governor Umahi formally joined the APC, there were media reports that Umahi’s defection to the APC may have sparked unrest among Southeastern party stakeholders.
The complaints also intensified after the absence of some prominent political figures from the Southeastern party, including in their formal desertion that took place on Thursday, November 19.
But nevertheless; Senator Kalu in a telephone chat on Saturday in his reaction, dispelled speculation of a possible confrontation between him and the governor after his absence from the official defection of Umahi from the People’s Democratic Party to the APC held in Abakaliki, the state capital of Ebonyi.
Kalu said that the national party leadership contacted him because he was a party leader in the geopolitical zone and that he explained that he was unable to attend the event due to a national assignment he was managing.
