Governor Umahi Fires Two LGA Officials After Dissenting At Political Meeting

Governor David Umahi has removed two coordinators from the Ebonyi local government development center for refusing to endorse the statement they deemed defamatory against former Senate President Pius Anyim.

Okorie Daniel of Ivo DC and Fabian Ivoke of Echiele DC were fired just after Ivo’s council leaders met on Wednesday, November 25 in Abakaliki, to support the defection of the governor of the All Progressive Congress (APC) of the Popular Democratic Party (PDP)).

The meeting was attended by current and former members of the National Assembly, the House of the State Assembly and the State Executive Council, members of federal and state boards and commissions, and chairmen of council councils.

Also present at the meeting were vice presidents, leaders of the Ivo Legislative Council, coordinators of development centers, APC chiefs, traditional rulers and presidents of municipal unions.

The leaders expressed their full support for Mr. Umahi and disassociated themselves from the activities of Mr. Anyim, who is from Ivo LGA in a statement read by the Information Commissioner, Uchenna Orji.

The statement read;

“We, the good people of the Local Government Area of Ivo dissociate ourselves from the activities of our son of the Ishiagu Community who is leading the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) against the wishes of the people of Ivo and hereby declare that he is alone and does not have the support of us in the Local Government Area of Ivo.

“That despite having him as president of the Senate for approximately three years and secretary of the Government of the Federation for four years, no form of infrastructure or human empowerment was attracted to any part of the Local Government Area of Ivo and much less to the Southeast, except crises and murders of innocent people. Our people were impoverished ”.

It was inferred that the earlier part of the statement angered some people at the meeting, including the two fired coordinators who refused to sign the statement. Briefing reporters later, Okorie said the statement was dictated for the meeting.

He said;

“The meeting was to articulate our position on the issue, but at the end of the meeting, a statement was brought from somewhere smearing the person of Senator Anyim.

“We can have different political ideologies or support the governor or anyone else we want to support, but not to come and start smearing Anyim. We can play our politics without insulting our elders. “

Shortly after disagreeing, the two coordinators were relieved of their duties as heads of the two development centers.

A statement from the secretary of state government, Kenneth Ugbala read;

“The Governor of Ebonyi State, Ing. David Nweze Umahi, has approved the removal of the following Development Center Coordinators in Ebonyi State: Okorie Daniel (Ivo D / C) and Fabian Ivoke (Echiele D / C).

“Consequently, the two former officials are ordered to hand over all government assets in their possession to the Secretary of the State Government / Coordinating Commissioner before work closes on Thursday, November 26, 2020.”

Since his defection on November 20, Governor Umahi has been firing some of his officials.
