Army confesses to bringing real bullets to Lekki tollbooth

The Nigerian army has confessed that they brought Live Bullets to Lekki Tollgate.

Nigeria online news reports that the Army, yesterday, left everyone in shock when it confessed to taking live rounds to the Lekki tollbooth on October 20, 2020 at the #EndSARS protest.

The army took a notable turn by testifying before the judicial panel set up by the Lagos state government to investigate the incident. He had done so previously, through the Commander of the 81st Military Intelligence Brigade, Victoria Island, Lagos, Brig. General Ahmed Taiwo informed the panel that no actual rounds were fired at the scene.

Taiwo, while commenting on the altercation during the questioning of Olumide Fusika, a Nigerian Lead Counsel (SAN), however, claimed that the actual rounds were not used against the protesters, but were intended for the protection of the deployed army team. to restore order in the state.

Testifying before the panel, Taiwo said: “We had men and materials: vehicles and rifles to shoot. A part of the force carried real bullets in case they were attacked. Another portion will carry magazines loaded with blank ammunition, ”he said.

While being questioned by another lawyer for the #EndSARS protesters, Mr. Adeshina Ogunlana, Mr. Taiwo said that the army acted professionally and within the army’s rules of engagement.

“The soldiers will use both live and blank bullets and in this particular case, we saw that this protest had been infiltrated by thugs. We certainly had peaceful protesters, but there were thugs who sought to take advantage of the protest, ”he said.

However, he claimed that the army was not deployed to Lekki Tollgate, “but was on patrol to clear the Lekki corridor, Eti-Osa”, once again refuting his earlier claim that the army was invited by the state governor, Babajide. Sanwo-Olu. Sanwo-Olu had previously denied inviting the soldiers.
