CNN has released a More Daring On Lekki Shootings report, challenging FG on threats of sanction.
Nigeria online news reports that despite threats of sanction from Buhari spearheaded the Federal Government for its investigative report on the shootings at the Lekki toll plaza during the #EndSARS protests, CNN has released a second report on the incident.
Recall that the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, had last week called CNN’s report on the Lekki shootings poor journalism, adding that the network deserved to be sanctioned.
Mohammed also followed up the threat with a letter addressed to CNN’s Atlanta address.
However, on Tuesday the network released a second report with more damning images showing soldiers firing at unarmed protesters on October 20, 2020.
According to the new report, the 81st Division Commander, Brigadier General Ahmed Taiwo was shown admitting to the judicial panel in Lagos that his men did indeed bring live ammunition to the tollbooth.
CNN’s report on the Lekki shooting also highlights the fact that Brigadier General Taiwo’s claim is at odds with that of the minister who claimed last week that the army fired blind bullets.
The new report also shows protesters running as soldiers open fire at the tollbooth.
This online news outlet understands that the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), which is supervised by the information minister, last month imposed heavy fines on three Nigerian television stations for daring to use some of the images it has also used. CNN.
The federal government has been criticized by members of the UK Parliament and Amnesty International for the killing of protesters.
