Ebonyi: I can’t resign on Facebook – commissioner

Chief Sunday Inyima, Ebonyi's commissioner for water resources, has debunked hints of his resignation from Governor David Umahi's cabinet, saying he cannot resign on Facebook.

Chief Sunday Inyima, Ebonyi’s commissioner for water resources, has debunked hints of his resignation from Governor David Umahi’s cabinet, saying he cannot resign on Facebook.

Newsmen recalls that social media, especially Facebook, was recently inundated with reports of Inyima’s resignation caused by Umahi’s defection from the PDP to the APC.

Inyima, a former chairman of Ebonyi’s Ohaukwu LGA and popularly known as ‘Agbalagba’ in political circles, made the statement on Saturday while addressing reporters.

“I don’t recall collecting my appointment letter from Facebook or the radio station where I supposedly announced my resignation.

Instead, I picked up my letter of appointment from the governor through the Secretary of the State Government (SSG) and I will follow that channel if I intend to resign.

The former land and housing commissioner said he did not attend the last state Executive Council meeting because he was attending a World Bank regional water conference in Enugu.

“My absence possibly fueled speculation about my resignation, but the governor approved the trip to Enugu for the conference.

“It is unfortunate that our people engage in gossip and backbiting and this was designed by a particular political official in the area.

“However, the fake news of my resignation showed me that I am still relevant and important and that I am satisfied about it,” he said.

He declared his support for the governor’s defection to the APC, noting that it meant a new dawn for the state.

“It is time to connect Ebonyi and the Southeast area to the national (center) ‘grid’ and make it available where things are shared with other states and areas.

“Now we are operating in a high electrical voltage and Ebonyi and the southeast area are qualified to produce the president of the country,” he said.
