The Department of State Services (DSS) has launched an investigation into the alleged shooting of a newspaper vendor by its staff in Abuja.
Service Public Relations Officer, National Headquarters, Abuja, Dr. Peter Afunanya, in a statement on Friday, said that the suspect is one of his staff members deployed to the Spokesman’s convoy as a security detachment.
“The attention of the Department of State Services (DSS) has been drawn to the allegation that an Ifeanyi Okereke was shot and killed by a security assistant to the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
“The Service hereby confirms that the suspect is one of its personnel deployed to the Spokesperson’s Convoy as a security detail. And as the Speaker has already stated that he has been suspended from his Convoy, the Service has further removed him from the assignment.
“As part of his disciplinary procedures in the instance, he has been detained. Furthermore, the Service has opened a detailed investigation into the matter. While it is committed to being transparent and responsible in handling this, it is in contact with the appropriate authorities to achieve this objective, ”the statement read.
