A 32-year-old truck driver whose name was given simply as Taiwo has sadly died, reports Sunday PUNCH.

The man met his tragic end after falling off a bridge in the Kirikiri area of Lagos state and drowning.

Taiwo had reportedly parked a truck on the bridge on Wednesday for fun, but got drunk in the process.

Sunday PUNCH learned that while wandering the bridge, he slipped, fell into the river and drowned.

Some people at the scene at the time reportedly tried in vain to rescue the 32-year-old man, who lived in the Ifo area of Ogun State.

The case is said to have been reported to the Kirikiri police station by an Ibrahim, the owner of the truck.

A police source at the station told our correspondent that Taiwo’s body was recovered the next day.

He said, “The deceased driver was reported to be drunk and did not know when he mistakenly walked to the top of the bridge. He fell and people in the area tried to rescue him. His body floated on Thursday and was recovered ”.

The police spokesman in the state, SP Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the incident, said that Taiwo’s body had been handed over to his family for burial.

He said, “On November 25, 2020, around 10.15 am, an Ibrahim reported at the Kirikiri Police Station that his driver, while under the influence of alcohol, slipped and fell into the Kirikiri River from the bridge.

“Police from the police station visited the place to carry out an on-site assessment. His body was removed the following day and handed over to the family, who refused to have an autopsy performed on the deceased ”.

Adejobi cited Police Commissioner Hakeem Odumosu to sympathize with the family and advise truck owners to always warn their drivers to avoid such incidents.
