Drama As Police Arrest, Detain Critic Of Katsina State Governor While Presenting Seminar Paper In Abuja

Alhaji Mahdi Shehu, a businessman from Kaduna state and a critic of the corrupt practices of the Nigerian government, has been arrested.

The man was arrested by the police in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja in Area 10, Garki.

According to SaharaReporters, it was learned that Shehu, a business magnate, was arrested on Friday, November 27, while presenting a document at a seminar in Abuja by the police.

It was deduced that he had since been detained at the Federal Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Area 10, Garki, for reasons the police have yet to reveal.

However, it was concluded that Shehu, a realist born in Katsina state, had recently criticized government policies in Katsina state for alleged monumental corruption under the current administration of Governor Aminu Masari.

A statement made available to the Nigerian Union of Journalists, the Kaduna state council on Sunday by Murtala Abubakar, an associate of Shehu, confirmed the arrest.

He described the action as an attempt to intimidate the businessman from further exposing official corruption in Nigeria, particularly in Katsina state.

The statement reads in part: “Whistleblower Alhaji Mahdi Shehu was arrested on Friday in Abuja for an undisclosed reason and has been detained by the police at the Federal Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Area 10, Garki.

“This is yet another form of intimidation effort designed to silence him and prevent him from further exposing the official corrupt tendencies in Nigeria, particularly in Katsina State where, in recent times, he has published a lot of compelling evidence of acts of corruption perpetrated by officials. of the state government.

“Instead of the police authorities investigating and inviting people linked to these corruption cases, the police now turned against the complainant for opposing the corruption. This unfortunate development could discourage other citizens from reporting corrupt practices, the consequences of which could negate the current government’s war on corruption.

Mahdi’s arrest took place in Abuja at the site of a seminar where he previously made a paper presentation as a specialist
