The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says that ensuring an indivisible Nigeria and safeguarding its sovereignty were the cardinal objectives and mandate of the force, said Air Marshall, Sadeeq Abubakar, Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), in Yola.
Speaking at a Christmas luncheon with troops in the northeast region on Friday, the CAS, which was represented by AVM Ayoola Jolasinmi, director of operations, NAF headquarters, said that Nigerian unity was its mandate and top priority.
“The Christmas celebration is all about sacrifice, as military professionals, our sacrifice for the unity of Nigeria remains immeasurable. Our enormous and cardinal goal and responsibility is to ensure the indivisibility of our beloved Country, Nigeria.
“We are fully committed and ready to make sacrifices for the unity, peace, stability and development of our nation,” Sadeeq said.
He noted that NAF had contributed its quota to the consolidation of internal security and would never relent until the security of Nigeria and its citizens was guaranteed, ensuring the total elimination of insurgency, banditry and other forms of criminality throughout the country.
According to the Air Chief of Staff, among his main vision was to reposition the NAF as a highly professional and disciplined force, through capacity building initiatives for effectiveness and efficiency.
These include the timely deployment of air power in response to Nigeria’s national security imperatives. As I speak to you, there are more than 200 NAF personnel off the coast of the country in different forms of training. And within the country, we have more than 1,000 people currently in training at various facilities, ”Sadeeq said.
He said that the essence of the lunch was to fill the void created by the officers by not being able to celebrate with their families, for the dedication and sacrifice to their country.
He congratulated the president for providing the NAF with the resources and thanked the NAF committees in both the Senate and House of Representatives for their support.
