Borno government donates 50 housing units to university junior staff

Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno state, says he is critical of the Nigerian army so that they can improve their fight against the insurgency.

Borno Governor Babagana Zulum donated 50 one-bedroom townhouse units to junior staff members of Maiduguri University.

In a speech while presenting the houses to the institution’s management on Monday, Zulum said his administration would also contact a microfinance bank to help academic and non-academic members of the university’s staff own houses in Maiduguri. .

He said that the reimbursement of the bank’s line of credit would be made in installments through salary deductions.

The governor, who was a professor at the university’s Faculty of Engineering, also promised to build a suitable structure for the faculty.

“The Department of Civil Engineering has not obtained accreditation due to a lack of equipment worth N100 million.

“I have directed the Commissioner of Higher Education, who is also one of us, to include this request in our 2021 budget.

“Drinking water is also very important. If there is a need for additional drilling at the university, we will provide it and also in places of worship, shelters and staff rooms, ”Zulum said.

He called for an amicable resolution of the long strike by the University Academic Staff Union.

He expressed his willingness to help in the collective effort to resolve the crisis.

Earlier, the rector of the university, Prof. Aliyu Shugaba, thanked the governor for his sustained support of the university.

Shugaba described Zulum as a worthy ambassador, alumnus, and staff member of the university.

According to him, the intervention of the Borno government in the critical area of ​​housing in the institution would have a positive impact on the university community.

He said the governor had also intervened in other areas, including supplying water to shelters and staff rooms, since the beginning of his administration.

“We have received enormous financial and material support from you in the security areas.

“You have also intervened by providing teaching and research tools and undertaken the rehabilitation of our mechanical workshop. The list is so long.

“Until now, all these projects donated to the university by the governor were not at the request of the university.

“He has chosen to do it because he cares about education and is part of the university community,” Shugaba said.

Alhaji Mustafa Gubio, the Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Commissioner, who built the houses, located on the university campus, said the apartment had a kitchen, store, gallery, lobby and hallway.
