The national leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has said that the party will soon shake up Nigeria’s political space with what it described as the unprecedented and massive defections ever witnessed in Nigeria’s political history as a country.
Speaking yesterday in the National Assembly when he met with the APC Senate Caucus in Senate Courtroom 1, APC Interim Committee Chairman and Governor of Yobe Srate, Mai Mala Buni also boasted that the party will remain the main political party of the country.
The President said: “In fact, I want to assure everyone that APC will soon shake up Nigeria’s political space with massive and unprecedented defections never witnessed in the political history of our great country, and by the grace of God, APC will certainly remain. the leading political party “.
Buni, who is a convention chairman, caretaker / committee, said the party was working assiduously to carry out a holistic membership revalidation exercise in the context of the APC not having an authentic registry in the 1930s. six states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory of the nation. , Abuja.
The president said: “It is regrettable that since the initial membership registration exercise in 2013, the party today lacks authentic registration in all 36 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. It is common knowledge that some members who left the party in 2018 and joined the opposition party still have their names adorned on the party registry. Similarly, many others who joined the party from 2014 to date do not have their names on record.
“Therefore, it becomes imperative that the party revalidate its Membership Register, erase the names of those who left the party and include those who have joined the party since 2014 to date in accordance with Article 9: 4 of the Party Constitution. Similarly, the annual payment of membership dues, which has almost been completely neglected over time, is a clear violation of Article 9: 1 (I) of the Party Constitution. Therefore, the committee considers that the member revalidation exercise is necessary to capture all members to promote internal democracy in the party.
“I am pleased to inform you that preliminary plans for the beginning of the first phase of the exercise have been finalized in the coming weeks with the expectation of covering members both within the country and in the diaspora.”
The chair of the Interim Committee also told senators to ensure that as legislators they work to win to be in office for four terms, adding: “I also want to suggest that as committed members of the Congress of All Progressives, we should think and work for the party beyond one, two, three or even four terms. As obtained in advanced democracies and with older political parties, we must ensure the victory of the party at all times to successfully and effectively implement the manifesto and party programs for the benefit of Nigerians. “
On conflict resolution and reconciliation within the party, the chairman of the APC Vigilance Committee said: “In taking up its duty, the committee developed a roadmap and development plan to serve as a guide to achieve our stated goal. Our bottom-up approach depended on genuine and true reconciliation, placing the interests of the parties above personal and selfish interests.
“The committee set up reconciliation committees to resolve aggrieved individuals and factions in all states with disputes. The members of the reconciliation committee were carefully selected from critical stakeholders, they are people of proven integrity selected to serve as chairmen and members.
“On the list was His Excellency Ken Nnamani, former Senate Chairman who chaired the Edo State Reconciliation Committee, while His Excellency the Governor of Niger State, Abubakar Bello, headed the Ondo State Reconciliation Committee. Similarly, we had the governor of Jigawa state, Alhaji Abubakar Badaru, chairing the reconciliation committee for Imo and Ogun state, among others.
“Today, we are proud to say that the conflicts in most, if not all, states have been resolved. The party now proudly displays political heavyweights in their respective states who have either returned to the party or have recently joined the party. We have the former Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon. Yakubu Dogara, former National President of the PDP, Senator Barnabas Gemade, several members of the National Assembly, Chief Jimoh Ibrahim, former Head of Service of the Federation, Mr. Danladi Kifasi, Senator Isa Hamma Misau, Alhaji Salisu Takai among others. Our recent great capture of a personality no less than the Executive Governor of the State of Ebonyi, His Excellency Mr. Dave Umahi and several legislators from the state assembly are indeed great milestones in our restoration process. Many others have expressed an interest in returning or joining the party. “
On the court cases, Buni said: “The reconciliation exercise by the committee, as part of its interventions, demands the internal resolution of disputes within the party and calls for all court cases against the party to be withdrawn from the courts to allow an internal settlement of the various disputes.
“The CECPC has compiled all these cases, including the identification of the parties to the disputes and litigation, and has established schedules for the immediate withdrawal of the litigation, while establishing procedures for hearing from all aggrieved members, including the creation of a neutral ground for everyone to voice their grievances.
“As of today, the party has recorded a large number of fully resolved internal disputes, while others are ongoing with strong prospects of resolving them.”
Speaking on the Revision of the Party Constitution, the Chairman of the Interim Committee said: “Like the membership revalidation exercise, the need to amend the Party Constitution and ensure its readiness for submission to the NEC for approval before The expiration of the committee’s mandate is quite necessary for the growth and development of the festival.
“The committee has established a high-powered committee composed of eminent party leaders, jurists, and experts to study the revised Constitution and make recommendations to the effect of necessary amendments. The National Secretary (CECPC) was mandated to provide all necessary information for broad consultations that will lead to an all-inclusive constitutional review of the party.
“The committee wishes to humbly present that, as a matter of priority, the party must do what is necessary in resolving all contentious and constitutional issues to approach the national convention with a fresh start and, on a very clean slate.”
