Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has expressed concern and shock over a confirmed attack on the town of Garkida in the Gombi local government area of Adamawa state.
An eyewitness report indicated that the attack was carried out by suspected Boko Haram insurgents on the eve of December 24.
In a statement released by his press secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou on Friday in Yola, he said the attack killed two civilians, including a five-year-old boy.
“This latest cowardly attack on the city of Garkida is another desperate rear-guard action by Boko Haram terrorists who have come under intense pressure from Nigeria.
“Let me assure the residents of Adamawa that this latest cowardly attack on Garkida will not go without serious consequences,” said Fintiri.
However, the governor sympathized with Garkida residents for the unfortunate attack and called on law enforcement agencies to do more to prevent further attacks in the state.
Fintiri noted that it was a cruel reminder of the indiscriminate targets of terrorists and an example of why everyone must participate to confront a threat without borders.
“I am with the Garkida community at this difficult time and I will continue to support military efforts to guarantee peace, security and justice for our people,” said Fintiri.
The state police public relations officer, DSP Sulaiman Nguroje, confirmed the attack but declined to comment further.
