60-Year-Old Man And Wife Nabbed For Allegedly Cutting Off Head And Hands Of Dead Body

A couple of Ashifat Okunade and Ashifat Mariam, 60, have been prosecuted by the Osun Police Command before an Osogbo Magistrate Court.

The couple were arrested and prosecuted for allegedly cutting off the head and hands of a corpse, The Nation reports.

The prosecutor had prosecuted the couple in March 2020, but replaced the charge with a new one that was read to the two defendants.

The police prosecutor, John Idoko, informed the court “The two defendants and others now at large on March 21, 2020, around 1pm in the Dagbolu area, Ifon conspired to commit a misdemeanor and indecently or indecently interfered with the corpse of a such Rasheed Tiamiyu and cut off his head and hands, for which he committed a crime contrary and punishable under article 242 of 5 of the Penal Code Cap. 34 Vol. II Laws of the Osun State of Nigeria 2002 “.

However, the couple pleaded not guilty to both counts of conspiracy and indecent interference with the dead.

The couple’s lawyer, Yemisi Akintajuwa, pleaded with the presiding magistrate to admit the defendant on bail.

Chief Magistrate Dr. Olusegun Ayilara said the defendant should continue to enjoy the bail terms granted in the previous charge and postponed the case until January 8, 2021 for hearing.
