No fewer than 138 NYSC members have tested positive for COVID-19.
Nigeria online news reports that the Nigerian Center for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed on Monday that 138 members of the National Youth Services Corps (NYSC) tested positive for the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
According to Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, NCDC Director General, none of those who tested positive were allowed into the camps.
He noted that 34,785 corps members and members of the camp communities have been tested and 138 tested positive, representing a prevalence of 0.4%.
“It means one in every 200 people,” he explained.
He added that those who tested positive were managed at home or in a treatment center, depending on whether they had symptoms and what state they were in.
Meanwhile, he said the next challenge would be how to work with education stakeholders to ensure the safe reopening of universities.
“Universities are a bit more risky and present unique challenges, but we are confident that we can approach this as we have in other sectors such as aviation,” said Ihekweazu.
