Startimes introduced paybyday even as DStv has reconfirmed option to suspend your subscription

Nobody saw this coming. At least not this fast. Pay-TV business in Nigeria has experienced more panics in the past 12 months than it has since its inception more than two decades ago. There was panic during the earlier periods of SKS dongles, but nothing compared to the recent call-to-action by popular pay-tv providers in recent times. You are about to read two adjustments made by two leading Pay-tv providers in Nigeria. I mean Startimes paybyday vs Dstv active service suspension.

I strongly believe that this has more to do with the need for the companies to pay more to issues affecting subscribers. Conversely, it may also have a lot to do with “TSTV AFRICA” announcement sometime is May 2016. Tstv was officially unveiled on the 1st of October 2017 even though the announcement can be dated back as far as April 2016.

DStv announced and implemented something that has the semblance of TSAfricaica “pausing of active subscibtion” on 21st of september, 2017. Startimes annouced a ridiclous price slash which is evne cheaper than that of tstv africa just a couple of hours ago. We now have Startimes paybyday vs Dstv active service suspension all thanks to consumers and partly tstv.

Startimes paybyday vs Dstv active service suspension how it plays outHow to  temporarily suspend your DStv active subscription

DStv multichoice Nigeria announced this on the 21st of September 2016. While it is a nice development, I think they can do better in my humble opinion.

You need to give at least a 48-hour prior notice that you want to suspend your account for a fixed period of seven to 14 days at a time and for a maximum of twice yearly.

This has also been incorporated into eazy.dstv.com FAQ with the question tag “Can I suspend my account temporarily”

This comes with some conditions and these are:

  • You will need a scanned copy of your ID card
  • The duration for suspension is between 7 to 14 days at any given period
  • Also, you muts have a maximum of 7 days credit in your account. What this implies i that you can suspend from day 1 till day 23. You cannot suspend an account that has 6 days to the due date.
  • Sadly, you can only perform this operation twice yearly.
Where to send the suspension request:

To request for a “temporal service suspension of your DStv active account” you can eith call their “Call centre on the toll-free lines09090630333 for Etisalat, 07080630333 for Airtel, 08113630333 for Glo and 08149860333 for MTN between the operating hours of 8am to 9pm on Saturdays, Sunday and public holidays.

Alternatively, you can send a request “suspension@ng.multichoice.com” or visit any of their branches.

About StarTimes paybyday/ pay by the day subscription

While DStv’s service suspension might be debatable, Startimes has just implemented a massive one that will further box GOtv into a tight corner. The only respite that GOtv will be having will be EPL and UCL sports on GOtv max. Startimes has just introduced a dailysubscriptionn to over 40 channels for a token of #60 daily. You can get the best of entertainment on startimes and mytv. The only downside to their services are EPL, La liga and UCL sports. Who knows, tstv africa may eventually steal the show as promised.

This was posted on their official twitter page some couple of hours ago. You can join the conversation at @StarTimes_NG. What is left is for tstv africa to make good their promise.
